If you are tired of spending your weekends pulling unwanted weeds and grass out of the shrub or rock beds on your property, this blog is written for you. Weeds can be a pain in the you-know-what. When they grow on your lawn you might stress out a little, but when they are in your garden and around your shrubs, it can be more annoying because it is ruining your beautifully aesthetic garden.
Keeping the landscaped bed areas of your property looking good takes a lot of time – time that could be used for other things. You shouldn’t have to waste your summer mornings pulling your weeds, and you won’t want to waste your summer nights wishing your yard looked good enough to entertain guests.
That’s why you can rely on Warne to teach you the ins and outs of weed control in your rock beds. You’ll want your landscape to look like it has come straight out of a picture book.
What Can Be Done To Improve The Appearance Of These Landscaped Bed Areas?
Timing Of Weed Control Applications
Weed control can be effective and helpful at any time. However, to make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck, it’s important to time your weed control applications. The ideal time for weed applications is early in the growing season. On first-year treatments it is best treated just shortly after the perennial grasses and weeds have started to green up, allowing for better control of the tougher-to-kill perennial plants.
Once the perennials have been controlled, which may take more than one application depending on the severity of the perennial plant population, the following annual treatments can be done earlier in the season to control the annual grass and weeds before they germinate from seed. If the application is done too late in the season, and the rain has stopped falling on a regular basis, the results may be less than effective.
Having a good sense of your unique rock bed needs and consulting our team is a great way to ensure your weed control is being timed correctly!
Rain or Irrigation
This application provides foliar activity to existing weeds and grass and residual control of annual weeds coming from seed. A large percentage of annual weeds will be controlled with the residual herbicide. 90% residual weed control is considered excellent. Rainfall or irrigation of at least a ½” after application is required to move residual herbicides into the soil profile for optimal performance.
Canada thistle and Creeping Jenny are deep-rooted perennials and may require a follow-up application.
